We appreciate your interest in Blouse and Skirt Books. We are interested in writing that is bold and riveting by voices that have something to say and can say it differently. We want works that make the reader sit up and take notice.
We produce poetry and fiction (adult and young adult) and we are also interested in memoirs and biographies.
For our adult fiction we consider both literary and genre works, including speculative fiction, fantasy, poetry, memoirs, noir, graphic novels and works that defy any existing cubby-hole we could shove it into.
For our YA novels we are interested in fantasy, dystopian fiction, thrillers, mysteries. But while Soucouya and Ole Higues are welcome no vampires and weirwolves please! We are also interested in interactive works aimed at the digital market.
We are actively seeking submissions directly from authors. Entertaining stories with lasting characters and messages is at the heart of what we do. Please send responses to firstname.lastname@example.org . All submissions must be in English and we prefer submissions of less than 80,00 words.
No Agent required but if it is a simultaneous submission, please let us know. We review all proposals. However, we are not able to personally respond to unsolicited proposals unless we are interested in pursuing the project.
Blue Moon accepts submissions by mail or e-mail. However, we love trees so we prefer digital submissions, except for illustrations which must be submitted by mail. (See below for more detail on where to send).
We are not able to personally respond to unsolicited submissions unless we’re interested in publishing.
We know you want to hear from us, and waiting can be nerve-wracking but please allow three months for the editors to review a proposal.
Submitted materials will not be returned. Therefore, please do not include originals of any sort or any materials of value. Also, there is no need to include a self addressed, stamped envelope.
What to Include in Your Proposal
Include a one-page cover letter giving a brief description of the project, why you think Blue Moon should publish it, what’s included in the package, and your contact information. We accept simultaneous proposal, but please indicate in your cover letter. Include:
- An exciting 250 – 300 word description of the book,
- An outline
- A sample of the first 30 pages of the novel or at least 10 poems
- Sample illustrations (if relevant and you have them).
When submitting artwork, either as a part of a project or as samples for review, please do not send original art, as it will not be returned. Anything from photocopies to tear sheets will do.
- Author/illustrator/photographer biography (80 – 150 words) that includes publishing credits and credentials in the field.
If submitting by mail and you would like confirmation of receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped postcard for the editor to put in the mail upon receiving your proposal.
